GUDJA 1 – 2 FLORIANA
It was a hard-fought and well balanced match, which Floriana won against Gudja with a score of 2-1.
The last match between these two teams was back in February of this year. That day it was Gudja who came out on the winning side with the score of 2-1.
In the first action worthy of note in the 7th minute, Floriana hit the crossbar with a header from Nicola Leone.
Five minutes later Gudja responded with a low shot by Yuri Messias that went just wide. In the 17th minute, it was Messias again who saw his free-kick go just wide.
In the 20th minute Floriana made it one nil. From a freekick, Diego Venancio had his shot deflected by one of Gudja’s defenders and past goalkeeper Glenn Zammit.
In the 38th minute Floriana doubled the score, when off a Diego Venancio corner from the left, Jurgen Pisani’s header, deflected by a Gudja defender, beat the Gudja goalkeeper.
Shortly before the end of the first half, Kristian Keki’s low shot went just wide.
In the second half Gudja were more adventurous. In the 48th minute, Friggieri fired a shot that ended up into a corner by Akpan.
In the 69th minute, a central shot by Friggieri was easily saved by the Floriana goalkeeper. Gudja continued to press and six minutes later Friggieri passed a perfect ball to Mensah, who saw his shot deflected into another corner.
Two minutes into extra time, Gudja’s efforts led to a goal. Aidan Friggieri headed the ball home in style past goalkeeper Ini Etim Akpan off a cross by Imanol Gonzalez from the left.
Floriana momentarily climbed to third place with twelve points same as Hamrun. Gudja United remain in 5th place with 10 points.
