Xewkija Tigers through to the next round of the FA Trophy after eliminating Gudja United 2-1 after extra time. They will now go on and take Balzan Youths who eliminated Qrendi FC 5-1 earlier this weekend.
Gudja started on the offensive early in the match, with a few scoring opportunities going to waste by Argentinian Striker Alexis Ramos. Xewkija responded only once, with a fine counter attack which was stopped first, by goalkeeper Matthew Xerxen, and then by the post.
Gudja again on the attack, this time Jackson Lima being the dangerous man directly from a free kick which was finely saved by Xewkija Goalkeeper, but a few minutes later, the same Jackson Lima put Gudja one up with a powerful shot in the corner of the net.
In the second half Xewkija came out stronger and after a few attempts they equalized following a mix inside the box. The final 15 minutes of the match saw both teams going up and down building their own opportunities but none were lucky enough to add one more.
In the extra time, Xewkija seemed to finally start showing their superior power on Gudja and in the 12th minute of the first half into the extra time, Emerson Vella tripped the Xewkija forward inside the box, penalty for Xewkija from which Antunes scored and secured a spot to the next round.
