Gudja United return to winning ways and regain second place

Nicholas Zammit's volley beats Siggiewi's keeper

9 men Gudja beat 10 men Siggiewi in a thrilling encounter filled up with many episodes which saw Gudja United climb back to 2nd place as St. Lucia were held 1-1 by Marsaxlokk.

The Blues were the better side through out all the first half with goal scoring opportunities coming twice from Elton Bugeja & Joseph Chetcuti who's effort was seen cleared up by a Siggiewi defender just on the goal line.

In the 32nd minute, Gudja took the lead with a superb volley by Nicky Zammit who received an excellent cross from David Azzopardi.

In the 34th minute, Siggiewi were down to 10 men as Sam Vella received a red card after hitting Gudja Right Back Cleaven Portelli, in which episode Joseph Chercuti was shown the yellow card. Following this incident Right Wing Jason Camilleri also of Siggiewi, who was sitting on the bench, was shown a yellow whilst Centre Forward Mauro Busuttil & a committee member were also sent off, both from the bench. The Game resumed in the 40th minute.

In the Second half, although down to 10 men, Siggiewi were in control for almost all the second half, but didn't harm much.

In the 68th minute, Gudja were also down to 10 men as Cleaven Portelli was shown the Red Card for committing a foul on Ryan Darmanin just outside the box, stopping a clear chance of goal. 10 minutes later Christian Cassar was also sent off for Gudja.

9 men Gudja resisted all Siggiewi attacks & were also close to make it 2 nil on the 88th minute, when Elton Bugeja failed to convert in an empty post, an effort from the middle of the pitch following a goalkeeper's error.

With this win Gudja took back the 2nd Place, & now sit just 3 points behind leaders Swieqi who lost this weekend against relegation fighters St. George's. Gudja still have a game in hand.
