It's still tight at the top of the 2nd Division were practically eight teams are fighting for the first two spots for automatic promotion.
In the top of the table clash at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday, Leslie Burke's Santa Lucia and Swieqi United, coached by Billy Mock, shared the spoils in a goalless draw. Daniel Camilleri (ex-Valletta) made his debut for league leaders Swieqi.
In the first match, Siggiewi easily dismissed St George’s, in deep relegation trouble, by five goals to nil. Jake Vella put Siggiewi ahead on 18 minutes with Kim Buhagiar, back in the fray after a lengthy absence due to injury, doubling on 33 minutes. Ian Montanaro added two more on 72 and 90 minutes with Jason Camilleri scoring the fourth goal on 85 minutes, his 97th goal for the club. Defender Stacey Vella, ex-San Gwann, made his debut in the Siggiewi starting formation.
Gudja United dropped two valuable points in their quest for promotion when they fired blanks in a goalless draw against Mgarr United in the second match at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday. Ronnie Celeste made his debut for Gudja after completing his loan deal from Birzebbuga during last month's transfer window. For Mgarr, Matthew Muscat made a comeback with a 66th substitute appearance. His last active match was in 2016.
Kalkara, still coached by Trevor Thomas, also lost further ground in the promotion hunt when they were narrowly defeated by two goals to one in an entertaining match. Substitute Isaac Galea put Marsaxlokk ahead on 61 minutes with 2nd Division league Top Scorer Timmy Thomas equalising on 71 minutes. Cleaven Frendo, ex-Fgura, scored the winning goal nine minutes from time.
In the first match at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday, Birzebbuga St Peters beat Attard by three goals to nil. Andrea Cutajar opened the score after just three minutes with Cameroon striker Didier Sohna adding another on 37 minutes. Substitute Jean Claude Cassar sealed the issue on 72 minutes. Lanky striker Jean-Claud Cesare, ex-Gudja, debuted for Birzebbuga. Fabian Zammit was sent-off for Attard five minutes from time with a straight red card.
In the first match at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday, Fgura United continued their winning run when they defeated bottom club Gharghur, now coached by Vojko Martinovic, by three goals to nil. Ryan Sell opened the score on 35 minutes with Gilbert Martin adding two more on 65 and 67 minutes, the first from the penalty spot. Ex-Balzan, Gzira, Naxxar and Pieta player Nikola Tasic made his debut for Gharghur.
